Well, I didn't finish my novel, but it's a solid piece of writing that I'm not giving up on. The storyline is good, it just needs a bit more work to make it into something good.

I'm not going to abandon this blog, I'll continue posting bits and pieces of my writing until next year's Nano Project. :)

Congratulations to those who finished their novels, and for the rest of us, congratulations for trying. May we never give up our writing!

Day One

So, NaNoWriMo has begun. So far, so good. I'm up to 2010 words already, and I haven't lost the plot yet. Of course, it is only day one.

Excerpt of the day:

"Ooh. I have an idea." She grabbed her brother's arm, and dragged him back towards the town. There was a shop there that had caught her eye, and now she had time to go in it.

"Where are you taking me?"

"Shopping!" She chirped, grinning brightly as she found the store, and dragged him inside.

He frowned. "Why on earth have you brought me to a store that sells leather pants?"

"Because, dear brother of mine," she answered, while picking out a pair that looked as if they might fit him, "sometimes the best way to convince someone of something is to seduce them." She handed him the pair, and motioned towards the dressing room. "Go try those on."

He stared at her incredulously. "You're serious aren't you."

"Completely."

Prompt 11

Character: Dusk Court
Prompt: Game

"My lord, my lord," the boy called out, bursting into the throne room. "The orb. It's been stolen."

The blue haired fae lord frowned. "What news is this?"

"Pryce discovered the loss and told me to come and tell you."

"Thank you, Iago." He smiled at the young fae noble. "This is very useful to know. Does Pyrce have any idea who might be behind this?"

Iago shook his head, his dark hair falling into his eyes. "Not yet."

"Alright. Return to Pryce until he learns more."

The boy nodded and left the room, leaving the fae lord alone. "So, this is how the game is to be played this round. Very well. It is my move now."

Prompt 10

Character: Dawn Court
Prompt: Someone who won't be missed

Raisa frowned. "What do you mean the orb is lost?"

"It vanished in transit, my lady."

She took a deep breath. "How am I to complete my plan if the object that I need for it has vanished."

The golden winged fae looked thoughtfully at the woman. "Perhaps we could find someone to retrieve it for us."

"Hmm," the woman pondered, pacing back and forth. "That might do at that." She stared the emissary, her green eyes alighting with mischief. "Very well, Nyx. Find me someone for this."

He bowed, flourishing exaggeratedly. "Of course. I will being the search at once." He turned to walk out."

"Nyx," the dark winged woman interrupted. "Find someone who won't be missed."

He nodded, grinning brightly at his lady. "As you wish."

Prompt 9

Character: Ryn/Ky
Prompt: Enlightenment

Lynn had gone down to Ki'aven to pick up a few things, leaving the two girls alone in Ky's cave. It had been a few days since Selana had appeared to Ryn, and she was in the mood to get a few answers. Unfortunently that meant she had to take less of a subtle approach. "Tell me about Selana, beloved."

Kytari swirled around, snarling. "How. Did. You. Find. Out. About. Her."

The dragon looked half feral at the moment, and Ryn's eyes widened. Maybe this hadn't been the best idea. She backed up against the wall, watching the girl warily.

"Tell. me. Eoryn."

"I met her."

"How. She's dead."

"Sometimes spirits talk to me." Ryn hadn't wanted to admit to that, it was her secret but, if it was that or being ripped to pieces, she'd rather the other girl know.

Ky blinked, and took a deep breathe. "I have to go. Don't follow me." She darted out of the cave, shifting into full dragon form the moment she hit the outside. It wasn't but a moment later, that the dragon had vanished, leaving Ryn alone in the cave.

"Well," Ryn commented, flopping down a pile of cushions to wait for either of them to return. "That was enlightening."

Prompt 8

Character: Ryn/Lynn
Prompt: Deny

It had possibly started as an act of defiance, the pair of them becoming a thieves and leaving home the first time. Now though, it was their life.

Unfortunately, there weren't very many jobs for thieves at the moment, which is why the pair were staring at the flier tacked to the wall of the tavern. "Wanted, Thief. Needed to steal something important. Inquire at Kiarta's tower. Ask for Rianna."

Ryn pulled the flier down, pocketing it. "What do you think, Lynn? We up for the challenge?"

He shrugged. "As much as I'd like to say no, we could use the money. Might be fun too."

"Alright then. Let's go find that tower; I'd like to know just what we've signed on for."

Prompt 7

Character: Kytari/Ryn/Lynn
Prompt: Let me tell your fortune

It was still snowing, and as they trudged through it, Lynn noticed a brightly colored tent up ahead. "Look." He said, pointing it out to the other two. "Want to see what it is?"

Ky frowned. "I don't think so. There's something about that place that just makes my scales itch."

They drew closer, and were finally able to make out a sign. "Fortunes told," it read simple, the image of a trio of tarot cards painted on it. There was a few footprints leading in and out of it, and Ryn paused. "I want to go in. It could be interesting."

"Why?"

"Aren't you curious? Don't you want to know what your future holds?"

Ky's eyes darkened, turning a darker shade of purple than the two had ever seen it being. "No. They never tell you anything good."

"Please Ky?" Ryn asked, batting her eyes at the other girl. "I really want to."

"I don't see why you find it so interesting. The future can't be changed, no matter how hard you try, so if it's something bad..." her voice trailed off, her mind obviously drifting elsewhere. "Fine." She blinked away a couple of tears. "But you can't say that I didn't warn you."

Plot Summary

After losing her lover in the Dragon Wars, Kytari retreated away from the world, hiding out in a cave above the small town of Ki'Aven. 100 years later, her sisters are tired of the girl's moping, believing it to be time for her to return home, and hire a pair of thieves to convince her to do just that. However, things don't go entirely as expected when a Fae noble shows up on her doorstep.

The two thieves, Arylnn and Eoryn, have been accused of stealing an artifact belonging to the Dawn Court of the Fae. Knowing the two to be innocent, Kytari bargains with the emissary of the court, arranging a chance for the twins to prove their innocence. If they can find the object and return it, they will be free, and the Dawn court will not bother them anymore.

Unfortunately, fate has other ideas, and even as they find the object, they also find more trouble than they ever expected when they try to return it.

Prompt 6

Character: Kytari/Ryn/Lynn
Prompt: Immune to Cold

For a moment, Ky remembered why she hated being cold, and she moved closer to Ryn. The other girl looked as miserable as she felt, and only the darling lynn, who was of the element, seemed happy.

"I am a terrible dragon," she muttered, pulling her cloak tighter. "Immune to cold, my ass. It's freezing up here."

Ryn smirked hearing the dragon's comment, ignoring the fact that she was just as cold as the dragon and as miserable. "Aww. Is someone cold?"

"Fuck you, Ryn."

"That would solve your cold issues."

"And give me frostbite."

Lynn chuckled, having stayed out of the girls conversation. "There'll be no need to resort to that. There's an inn nearby, we'll stop there for the night. I want to get inside before the storm hits."

Ky looked up at the sky. There were a lot more clouds than there had been earlier, and she picked up her pace. "As long as it's warm, I don't care where we stop."

Ryn nodded in agreement. "How close is nearby?"

It had started to snow by that point, but as they continued to move the faint hint of a building started to come into view. "Not much at all"

She stuck her tongue out at her brother's back. "I can see it now."

He resisted the urge to make a comment, and, once they reached the building, held the door open. "After you."

They entered, and then so did he, ready to warm up and get out of the storm.

Prompt 5

Character: Kytari/Ryn
Prompt: Running

She ran, escaping from the thoughts that dared to haunt her. It had only been moments ago, when she been aloud to forget, when she was able to be happy, and possibly be in love, but her guilt had risen, and she had fled; leaving the half demon in her bed bewildered.

She had thought, perhaps, that after 100 years, it would be safe for her to take a new lover, but no. It didn't seem to be. Ky sighed, dropping down to her knees on the hard ground. "I'm sorry," she cried, tears beginning to escape, "Selana."

At the same time, Ryn watched, having followed behind the dragon after she had darted out of the room, a borrowed cloak wrapped around her naked body. "I see why her sisters hired us,' she said softly, trying not to disturb the girl. She wasn't sure if Ky was even aware of her surroundings at the moment, but it seemed to be the safest solution.

It had been the first time since they, her and her brother, had come to stay in the dragons mountain home that Ky had even shown a bit of emotion, and frankly, Ryn was a bit bewildered.

"Why did you have to be taken from me?"

Ryn frowned. What in the world had scarred the dragon so bad? She would have thought that if there had been something major that her sister would have given them the information. Apparently not. Bloody dragons. "Ky," she called out, alerting the girl to her presence as she moved closer.

"Go away!" Ky snarled, baring her teeth in an almost feral manner. "I'm a murderer. You'll only get hurt if you stay with me.'

"I don't hurt that easily beloved." She knelt down, placing her hand on Ky's bare back.

The dragon suddenly turned, clinging to Ryn like her life depended on it. "I can't lose you again."

It was one of those moments that Ryn knew that she wasn't being talked to; that there were ghosts in Ky's past that still had hold upon her, and that there wasn't anything she could do about it. It kind of sucked. "Who did you lose, Ky?" Ryn whispered, running her hand through the girls short silver hair. "Will you tell me."

Ky shook her head. "It's hard."

"I know. Will you tell me one day?"

She nodded, and Ryn knew that would have to do for now. At least it was a start.

Prompt 4

Character: Kytari/Eoryn
Prompt: Winning

Perhaps it wasn't fair, Ryn thought, as she wrapped her arms around the smaller girl, that she had won, that she had managed to seduce the dragon first.

"Your thoughts are restless," Ky muttered sleepily, reaching her hand up to caress the other girls cheek. "What are you thinking so hard about?"

"Lyn," she replied honestly. "He's going to be so disappointed." The sentence had a couple of meanings, and she wondered briefly how the dragoness would respond. Did she know about the game she and Lyn were playing?

"It'll be alright, love," Ky answered after a moment. "I can talk to him in the morning if it'll make you feel better. I'm sure he'll come around."

Lyn ran her hand through the short, silver hair. It seemed that their secret wasn't out yet. "I'd appreciate it." Ryn yawned. "Sweet dreams."

"What do I need dreams for?" Ky responded back. "I have you."

Prompt 3

Character: Eoryn/Kytari
Prompt:
The most unusual thing I ever stole.

"I stole a sheep once," Ryn commented, hanging upside down from the upper bunk. "Bit of a lark that."

Ky looked up from her spot on the floor. "What?"

"I stole a sheep."

"I heard that the first time. What brought that on?"

Ryn grinned, swaying a bit. "Just an idle thought. It was in place like this, actually. Not this one, of course, I'm fairly certain that I'm still banned from that particular inn."

Ky's eyebrow raised. "Serious?"

"Yeah. We hid it in the closet, the inn keeper wasn't particuarlly happy about that."

"We? I just can't see your brother doing that."

"No, Lynn wasn't anywhere nearby at the time. I was with one of the vamps actually, for one last bit of trouble before he became a full member of the priesthood. It was kinda fun."

Ky giggled. "I just can't imagine you stealing a sheep. What'd you do with it afterwards?"

A sheepish look came over Ryn's face. "Erm...we...may...have left it in the closet." It hadn't been the smartest idea in retrospect, but at the time, it had seemed to be.

"You left a sheep in an inn's closet?"

Ryn nodded. "Yeah. It was a really good idea at the time."

Ky shook her head, and sighed. What had she gotten into with these two. "You're nothing but trouble, pest."

"Well, yeah. What do you expect? Arlynn might take after mother, but I take after our demon father. I can't help but get into trouble."

Saturday, August 7, 2010

Character: Arlynn

Name: Arlynn
Gender: Male
Age: 19ish
Species: Half Demon

Appearance: Dark-red hair, wavy, shoulder-length and normally pulled back in a loose ponytail. Light grey eyes. Feminine looking, about 5'8. Small silver horns.

Personality: One of the most intelligent people one would ever meet. The type of person who sounds like they have an encyclopedic knowledge of everything, or that they're swallowed the dictionary and are slowly and methodically regurgitating it. Extremely polite and respectful, but with a surprising sense of humor and a playful streak that surprises most. Is friendly to everyone because he knows what it's like to be teased.

Scent: Old books, and smoke

Character: Eoryn

Name: Eoryn
Gender: Female
Age: 19ish
Species: Half Demon

Appearance: Curly, dark-red hair that goes a little past the shoulders. Normally worn loose. She has grey-ish eyes, but she insists that they’re lilac because they look that way in the light sometimes, though they probably aren’t. Masculine looking, about 5'8. Small silver horns.

Personality: A bit of a troublemaker, but can sweet talk her way out of almost anything. Kind of spiteful. Likes all the wrong people. Writes a lot. Likes painting as well. Kind of quiet, unless she thinks you're interesting, then she's a handful.

Scent: Cocoa butter, spices, smoke

Character: Kytari

Name: Kytari
Gender: Female
Age: 19ish (human form)
Species: Dragon

Appearance(Human)- Ky stands about 5'6, with a slender build. Her hair is silver, cut into a short pixie cut. She has purple eyes.

Appearance(Dragon)- As a dragon, Ky is tiny, about 6 feet long from tail to tip. She's evenly built though, and capable of carrying a rider, assuming that the rider is small and light. Her scales are silver, and her eyes are the same purple as her human form.

Personality: She's intensely private and doesn't like people in general. She doesn't trust lightly. She's prone to mood swings. When she's in a good mood, she's lots of fun. She can even be too crazy sometimes. But when she's upset, she's probably not going to be around, choosing to vanish and mope alone.

She's very truthful and will only lie when it benefits her, so she often insults people. It's not because she's cruel or because she doesn't know she insults them. She just doesn't care enough to bother making up a lie.

It takes her a long time to decide whether she likes someone or not. People she doesn't like or doesn't know don't exist for her. She sometimes comes on too strong, because when she finds someone she likes (and it happens very rarely) she wants to cling on to them.

Scent: Vanilla, Sandalwood, Cinnamon

Prompt 2

Character: Arlynn
Prompt:

The tea tasted of oranges.

Lynn stared down into his tea, stirring it idly with his spoon. "I'm going to die," he muttered, the vision still clear in his head, "and I can't tell them." This fact bothered the young demon; his sister and their lover deserved to know, but if he told them, things would go horribly wrong.

He frowned, and took a sip of the tea, burning his tongue as he did. It was still incredibly hot, but after the initial shock, the half demon could taste the strong flavor of the tea. "Orange?" he said confused. "Why does the tea taste of oranges?"

He picked up the tea bag and sniffed it. It didn't smell anything like oranges, and took another drink of the tea. Now it tasted like strawberry. "Okay, this is seriously weird." He was starting to get a little weirded out by this tea, but he suspected that it was probably his sisters.

"Ryn!" he hollered. "Your stupid tea keeps changing flavors."

"I know," a voice yelled back. "Isn't it awesome!"

He shook his head, and took another sip of the flavor-changing tea. "If you say so, sis."

Well, there wasn't much he could do, and there really was no point in worrying about his death. He couldn't change it, and for now, he needed to at least pretend that there was nothing wrong.

Prompt 1

Character: Kytari
Prompt:
Some days, it's so gloomy I just wanna cry, and then I remember how much she loved gloomy days.

She had clearly been a water spirit, despite being one hundred percent human, and I remember her smelling of rain; rain and metal, and the faint scent of vanilla, and occasionally, when I smell one of these scents, I want to do nothing more than curl up into a little ball, and cry.

Today's one of those days, one of those days that's so gloomy that it makes me want to cry, and that remind me just how much she loved days like this. You'd think that by now, 100 years after her death, I'd possibly be over her, but no, she's still as much of a part of me as my wings are. It kind of sucks.

I mean, sure, I don't regret falling in love with her, or even that I'm still in love, but sometimes, it's just hard. Everything reminds me of her, and maybe if she hadn't died so tragically; if I would have had a chance to say goodbye, maybe it wouldn't be as difficult, but baring time travel or enlisting the help of a necromancer, there's no way I ever can. And I'm not about to go and seek out a necromancer just to fulfill my own selfish desires.

Nanowrimo Plot

It's been 300 years since the Dragon Wars, and the silver dragon, Kytari, is still living on the mountain that she fled to after her mate was killed.

Her siblings are tired of this, and have hired a pair of thieves, twins, a boy and a girl, to convince her to return home. They proceed to travel to Kytari's home, and, being thieves, cannot resist searching her home for interesting objects.

She catches them going through her things, and, in her surprise of having visitors, allows the girl to pin her up against the wall while the boy continues to search for valuables. Finding nothing of importance, much to the thief's shock, he tells his sister that, and suggests that perhaps they could kill her instead, since there wasn't anything of interest for them there.

This doesn't please Kytari, and she tells them that this is all the treasure she needs, living all alone, off the land. They're skeptical, but when she offers them dinner, they accept.

The dragon doesn't seem to be depressed, which confuses the twins, and they become unsure of how they are to fulfill their employers request. The next day, she invites them to stay as long as they'd like, finding that she was really enjoying their company, and that she was, at least a little bit, lonely. They agree.

Eventually, they come to realize how good her life really is, but they know there's a lot missing and that they can provide it. They start to seduce her at the same time as they're re-introducing her to the world.

Unfortunately, something in faerie land has been stolen, and one of the faerie courts suspects the twins, and before any of them realize this, an ambassador of the Dawn court is at Kytari's home, demanding that they return the object to them, or the twins will be killed.

By this point, Kytari has become rather fond of the pair, and argues with the diplomat, and they eventually come to a compromise. If the trio can prove that they didn't steal anything, find the object, and return it to its owners, then they will be free and the Dawn Court will not bother them anymore.

During the quest, the three discover that its owners aren't, actually, the court that accused the twins of thievery. The real owners come forth, and the three have to forge a treaty between the two courts and themselves to stay alive, and to prevent war from breaking out.

Welcome to my writing blog, a place where the secrets of my inner mind will come out and play. Most of the posts will likely be related to Nanowrimo, but there will be a few non nano post.

I'm going to attempt to write daily, and post it here, but I don't know how successful this will be, and I'm not going to make any promises.
